A full re-installation of the operating system will usually give maximum stability back to your operating system but you must be aware that almost ALL your previous applications will be lost in the process meaning many hour or days of time installing and reconfiguring those applications and data you have now lost. A lot of applications may have even been pre-installed on your machine leaving you without any method of re-installing them without purchasing the software again. Applications cannot be backed up and restored so must be re-installed from the original media. All too often, other businesses do not backup your data leaving the onus on you (most customers do not perform suitable backups or are unaware how to do such backups) leaving you with lost data, important documents, email and contacts and precious family photographs.
